Why AI Trip Planners Skip Villas That Never Say How Far Anything Is
Most villa websites say conveniently located and stop there. AI trip planners ignore that phrase completely and only quote villas that state exact distances and travel times.
Someone planning a trip to Crete does not scroll through twenty villa listings anymore. They ask ChatGPT or Google's AI Overview for a villa near the beach with a private pool, thirty minutes from the airport, and one villa gets named. Not the one with the most photos. The one whose website said exactly how far it is from everything a guest would ask about.
"Near Everything" Means Nothing To A Model
Google ranks pages by links and authority. AI trip planners such as ChatGPT, Perplexity and Google's AI Overview do something different. They read the actual sentences on a page and repeat the specific claims back to the person asking. Villa websites are full of phrases like conveniently located, close to all amenities and just minutes from the beach. None of those are specific claims. A model cannot quote just minutes, because just minutes could mean 2 or could mean 25.
1. A Distance Claim Without A Number Is Not A Claim At All
6 minutes by car to Elafonissi Beach. 22 minutes to Chania Airport. 5 minutes on foot to the nearest taverna. Those three sentences give an AI trip planner something it can match against a specific question, and something it can repeat with confidence. Close to the beach gives it nothing to repeat, so it moves on to the next listing that did the work.
2. AI Trip Planners Are Answering Logistics Questions, Not Mood Questions
The questions people now type into ChatGPT before a trip are logistical. Villa in Crete within a 15 minute drive of a sandy beach for a family of six. Quiet villa no more than 30 minutes from the airport with early check in available. Every one of those questions has a number in it, and the model needs a number on your site to match against it. A page that only promises a magical escape has nothing for the model to compare it to.
3. Your Airbnb Or Booking.com Listing Cannot Save You Here
Airbnb and Booking.com strip out most of the detail a host writes, cap description length, and push every host toward the same handful of templated phrases. If your only detailed location description lives inside a listing a platform has trimmed down, an AI trip planner reading the open web will never see it. Your own website is the one place you control every sentence, and it is the one place worth putting the real numbers.
| Vague location wording | Wording an AI model can quote |
|---|---|
| Conveniently located near the beach | 5 minute walk to Falassarna Beach |
| Close to the airport | 25 minute drive to Chania International Airport |
| Walking distance to restaurants | 3 minute walk to 4 tavernas and a bakery |
4. One Set Of Numbers, Repeated Everywhere, Is What Gets Trusted
An AI trip planner rarely trusts a single source. Before naming your villa for a family of six, 30 minutes from the airport, it often checks whether your website, your Google Business Profile and your listing on a booking platform agree on the same distance. If your website says 20 minutes and your Google profile says 30, you have handed the model two different stories, and a model that cannot resolve a conflict simply picks a different villa. State the same distance, in the same units, everywhere your villa appears online.
A trip planner does not care how magical your villa feels in the photos. It cares whether it can find the same travel time in more than one place.
What This Actually Means
A villa that states 6 minutes to the beach, 22 minutes to the airport and 5 minutes to the nearest taverna, consistently across its website, its Google Business Profile and its Airbnb listing, is now more likely to be the villa ChatGPT names for a family searching those exact requirements than a bigger property that only says prime location. Answer Engine Optimisation and Generative Engine Optimisation reward the villa that did the arithmetic for the guest before being asked.
